German-Saudi Business & Event News
|
|
Dear Partners and Friends,
|
|
Last week we organized for the 4th time our “German companies meet Saudi talent” event in Frankfurt. I have been very impressed to see nearly 80 Saudi students currently studying at German Universities being in the final year of their studies. They have left their comfort zone to learn a new language and experience a new culture. Among them were many female students who are majoring in different sciences and engineering subjects. We were very pleased to receive several known German companies who have offices in Saudi Arabia and had the opportunity to have bilateral meetings with the potential graduates. I am optimistic they will be a valuable contributor to the Saudi Vision 2030 as well as to the German-Saudi economic relationship.
A different view on Riyadh was experienced during the visit of our Business circle to the Financial District in Riyadh. Walking through the so-called “Wadi” between the modern skyscrapers gave a very special atmosphere between tradition and modern business life. The German company representatives also enjoyed an excellent view from one of the office buildings during sunset, overlooking Riyadh.
November started with our annual Networking reception in Bahrain, where nearly 200 businesspeople from Bahrain and the Eastern Province enjoyed a pleasant evening close to the sea with lots of opportunities for networking.
One of the upcoming highlights of the bilateral business relationship is the Joint Economic Commission in Berlin on the 18th of December. The meeting is chaired on the ministerial level by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy on the German side and the Minister of Finance on the Saudi side. With best regards,

On the 4th of November our annual Bahraini-German Business Network Reception took place at the lovely open-air venue of “La Plage” at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Bahrain.
This occasion was used to introduce our new Delegate of German Industry & Commerce for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen, Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte in Bahrain. Dr. Samra-Rohte welcomed almost 200 businessmen and women along with H.E. Kai Boeckmann, the German Ambassador of Bahrain, Prof. Dr. Hoefer and our 3 German sponsors BASF, BMW (EuroMotors) and DHL.
This year’s focus was on the networking among the high-ranking Bahraini, German, and Saudi business representatives to tighten the business relations as well as encourage new business opportunities.
The excellent set-up by the beach, the wide array of mostly German foods displayed alongside the promenade and the attentive service of the Ritz Carlton.
We are looking forward to inviting you again in 2020!

Personal talks & networking during the well attended 4th edition of the "German Companies meet Saudi talent" event

The job opportunities and internship forum was held at the premises of the IHK Frankfurt am Main. This joint event of GESALO, the IHK Frankfurt, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Berlin, did bring together current Saudi students (studying at German Universities in their final year) and German Companies who presented future career opportunities, especially for those returning to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after their graduation. The event kicked off with the welcoming remarks of GESALO's Delegate Dr. Samra-Rohte followed by IHK Frankfurt's Managing Director of International Business Dr. Jürgen Ratzinger and Dr. Moneer AlOtaibi, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Afterwards, students had the opportunity to personally introduce themselves and present their CVs in one-on-one talks with the companies. The great turnout of approximately 80 Students and the overall very positive feedback from the companies did confirm once again, that this information and networking event is beneficial for both, students and companies. Therefore 2020 we will gladly continue this successful concept. We would like to thank all attendees, organizers and our participating companies: Allianz, BASF, DHL, SAP, Roland Berger, Siemens Healthineers, Thyssenkrupp Elevators, and V-LINE

The German business circle aims to introduce & connect the German community to interesting projects and official institutions. In preparations of the opening of the first phase of the King Abdullah Financial District Riyadh (KAFD) which switched the ownership to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), we got the chance to get an insight by the management of the KAFD who gave us a presentation and tour through the new business district.
Beginning in December the G20 presidency of Saudi Arabia will start and the KAFD aims to host one of the sessions in their premises. The first offices and buildings are already rented out to the Ministry of Information, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, as well as an AMC Cinema.

Saudi Arabia opts for the power of the sun |
|
For Saudi Arabia, energy and supplying it from renewable resources is a big issue following the government’s decision to “reduce the country’s dependence on oil” by 2030. The Dornier Group is helping the country achieve its goal.
Sustainable generation of energy is becoming an ever more important issue for people around the world, with the result that many countries are increasingly opting for energy from water, wind and the sun. By contrast, Saudi Arabia at present still sources most of its energy from gas and oil, and is the world’s second largest oil producer. The government is seeking to reduce this reliance by the year 2030, focusing its attention on solar and wind power. The Kingdom is consequently planning a rapid expansion of wind and solar systems, and intends to already be generating 30% of its power from renewables in 2030.
With a share of currently only 0.04% of renewable energies in electricity generation, Saudi Arabia is still at the start of the energy transition, and is being supported by Dornier Group, a one-stop shop for infrastructure services in the energy, mobility, aviation, real estate and water sectors. Dornier has already been operating in Saudi Arabia for 20 years now. The group has been represented by a Dornier Consulting subsidiary in Riyadh since 2009, and has successfully carried out numerous projects in the water and transport sectors for the government in the past, such as extensive investigations into the groundwater level in Saudi Arabia, construction of the metro line 5 and studies on intelligent traffic management.
Renewable energy matters within the group are taken care of by Suntrace GmbH, a member of the Dornier Group, from the office in Riyadh. This is now the solar experts’ second assignment for K.A.CARE, and involves monitoring existing measuring stations for solar radiation and wind, and assessing the quality of the measurement data. The accuracy of the measurement data is of vital importance for the quality of the forecast on expected yields from solar and wind systems, and crucial for the financial viability.
As the chart shows, Saudi Arabia has a huge potential in terms of solar energy, in addition to which wind conditions are excellent in the north-west of the country. These resources are now to be tapped into in the near future.
